[LIST] Grassroots relief drives responding to #UwanPH
MANILA – “Mutual aid and government accountability go hand in hand — one builds community, the other justice,” stated in a post by Community Pantry Philippines founder Patreng Non.
Uwan (international name: Fung-wong) has been classified as a super typhoon on Sunday, November 9, by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). In the latest bulletin posted by PAGASA, life-threatening conditions are already recorded over the Bicol region as Uwan continues to move west northwestward over the coastal waters of Camarines Norte.
In the context of weak infrastructure and corruption-marred flood control projects, Filipino communities again take the initiative to provide relief for the most vulnerable sectors and areas affected by the super typhoon. Below is the list of initiatives by grassroots organizations.
Community Kitchens nationwide
Community Pantry, a nationwide initiative led by volunteers, prepares community kitchens for areas affected by the onslaught of typhoon Tino and currently, super typhoon Uwan.
Non, the initiative’s founder, says they are continuing the community kitchens in Cebu and Negros while preparing for the areas in Bicol, Nueva Ecija, Caloocan, Marikina, Manila, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Pasig, Quezon City, Bulacan, and Rizal.
