Mark Belo Heads to Meralco, Baser Amer to Blackwater

Another former top-overall pick player is on the move as veteran forward Rey Mark Belo was dealt by the Blackwater Elite to the Meralco Bolts in exchange for guard Baser Amer.

The player swap transaction was agreed upon by the Bolts and the Elite on Tuesday afternoon with the trade papers already sent to the PBA Commissioner’s Office for approval.

The Midsayap, Cotabato-native Belo, who was selected as no. 1 overall pick by the Elite in 2016 PBA Rookie Draft, is a welcome addition for the Bolts, which fell one game short of advancing to the finals in the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup.

The 27-year-old Belo, a former Far Eastern University Tamaraws standout, had a solid showing for Blackwater last season where he averaged 11.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game.

Amer, who spent the first six years of his PBA career with the Bolts, will be a solid addition for the Elite, which is on a look for a veteran floor general to finally have a breakthrough PBA season.

The 28-year-old Amer, a former starting guard of the San Beda University Red Lions, averaged 9.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists in nine appearances for Meralco last season.
