SBP open to idea of Gilas Pilipinas playing in PBA for Season 46

THE Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has considered the invitation of Philippine Basketball Association to let Gilas Pilipinas play in the upcoming 2021 PBA Philippine Cup on April.

“We’re definitely open to the idea of playing in the PBA and once the team arrives from Doha, we will sit down with the PBA to discuss this matter further,” said SBP President Al Panlilio in a statement on Tuesday.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial mentioned that the league’s board of governors are indeed inviting Gilas to join the oldest league in Asia in preparation for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup in August.

Gilas Pilipinas will be composed of the first batch of Gilas draftees in 2019 that consists of Isaac Go, Matt and Mike Nieto, Rey Suerte, and Allyn Bulanadi, as well as “three to five” more players in the special Gilas round which will be selected in the upcoming draft.

Other members of Gilas Cadets will also be included, as well as Angelo Kouame.

For now, Gilas will face South Korea and Indonesia in the third window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers on February 18-22 in Doha, Qatar.
