‘Fifth Place na lang labanan’ Yeng Guiao reflects on PBA’s lack of parity

NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao has observed the lack of parity or imbalance competition in the PBA.

In an interview with “The Chasedown” on Saturday, Guiao mentioned that other teams that are not either defending Philippine Cup champion Ginebra, San Miguel, Magnolia, or even their sister-team TNT really don’t stand a chance in contending for a championship this season.

Most of the huge trades that happened in the 2021 offseason actually favored the “Big Four” teams the most, at least on paper.

On the bright side, Guiao still gave credit to some teams outside the “Big Four” namely Alaska, as well as Phoenix and Meralco who both clawed their way to the semifinals in last year’s bubble season.

NLEX recently came off with a trade in which they sent their fourth pick in the upcoming draft to TNT in a three-team deal involving Blackwater.

Guiao said that it was the upper management’s decision, not his, and it is obvious that he is dwelling on that said transaction.
