Mark Yee’s Game-Winning Trey Clinches MPBL Title For Davao Occidental

Mark Yee drained the go-ahead triple as Davao Occidental Tigers-Cocolife clinched the 2019-2020 MPBL Lakan Cup crown with an 89-88 overtime win against San Juan Knights-Go For Gold in Game 4 of the finals at the Subic Bay Gymnasium.

Trailing 86-88 after a conversion by San Juan’s Larry Rodriguez, Yee swung the lead for Davao Occidental with a top of a key triple with 13 seconds left before putting on a defense on the other end to seal the win.

“Hindi ko gawa ang basket na ‘yon. Gawa ‘yon ng nasa itaas,” the Sagay City, Negros Occidental-native Yee said on his game-winnng triple. “Nagtiwala lang kami Sakanya at nagtagumpay kami.”

Yee finished the match with double-double 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Davao Occidental, which avenged their MPBL championship defeat to San Juan two years ago.

Emman Calo led the way with 22 points, while Billy Ray Robles and Joseph Terso contributed 11 markers apiece for the Tigers, which ended the best-of-five title series at 3-1.

Rodriguez finished with 19 points, Jhonard Clarito had double-double 18 points and 12 rebounds for the dethroned champions Knights.
