Carlos Yulo finishes 4th in Tokyo Olympics
Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo fell short of a podium finish in the vault apparatus event in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics men’s artistic gymnastics on Monday night at the at the Ariake Gymnastics Centre in Tokyo, Japan.
Yulo settled for a fourth place in the apparatus with a total score of 14.716, behind gold medal winner Shin Jeahwan (14.783), silver medalist Denis Abliazin of Russia (14.783) and bronze medal winner Armenia’s Artur Davytan (14.733).
Yulo had a great execution in his first jump with the difficulty scored at 5.600 and execution at 9.066 but was deducted by 0.1 after he stepped outside the mat upon his landing for 14.566 total points.
Yulo came up with an even greater jump in his second attempt earning a score of 5.600 in the difficulty and 9.266 in the execution for a total of 14.866, highest among all participants in the second jump.
Yulo has earlier failed to reach the gold medal round of his pet event floor exercise, he landed in 44th place out of 64 competitors, as well as in rings, parallel bars, horizontal bars and pommel horse.
