Shabazz Muhammad scores 57, SMB defeats Meralco

San Miguel Beermen leaned on the exploits of Shabazz Muhammad as they scored a come-from-behind 115-110 win over Meralco Bolts in the 2021-2022 PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Muhammad, a former NBA player, blasted for 57 points, on 62-percent shooting from the floor, on top with his 19 rebounds as the Beermen finished the eliminations with 7-4 win-loss record.

Down by as much as 26 points in the opening half, Muhammad went to work in the second half as the Beermen slowly clawed its way back to notch its second straight victory and also boosting its top four finish.

Muhammad was supposed to play for the Bolts to start the conference but was prevented for personal reasons. He then ended up with the Beermen, who tapped him to replace Orlando Johnson.

June Mar Fajardo backed Muhammad up on offense with double-double 16 points and 14 rebounds, while Vic Manuel and Marcio Lassiter contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively, for SMB.

Tony Bishop tallied double-double 29 points and 14 rebounds, while Kier John Quinto and Allein Maliksi added 18 and 16 markers, respectively, as the Bolts slumped to 6-4 record.
