Nadugas? Nesthy Petecio loses to Vietnamese boxer in SEA Games semis

Nesthy Petecio suffered a controversial defeat to Vietnamese Tran Thi Linh in their semifinals match in the 31st Southeast Asian Games women’s boxing on Friday night in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Tran in the women’s featherweight (57-60kg) division.

The 30-year-old Petecio was behind after the opening round but manage to dominate the Vietnamese in the second frame. However, the judges still scored it in favor of Tran.

Looking for a knockout in the third frame, Petecio unloaded body shots and powerful hooks but couldn’t get as many points needed to slice Tran’s lead.

ABAP president Ed Picson was disappointed with how the judges score the match.

“This certainly was not what we expected but there were several factors that came into play. Obviously we’re disappointed,” said Picson.
