It was a gallant effort for Eumir Marcial on what proved to be a total slugfest match against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Khyzhniak, but he still did not leave the Tokyo Olympics empty-handed.
The 25-year old fighter still took home the bronze medal, giving Philippines its third medal in Tokyo Olympics.
Netizens were quick to pour their congratulatory messages to Marcial, including eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.
“Thank you, Eumir Marcial for giving your best! Your OIympic effort was solid gold,” Pacquiao said, who also lauded Carlo Paalam after his dominant victory over Japan’s Ryomei Tanaka to advance in the gold medal match.
Fight for Gold, Carlo Paalam! We are rooting for you.
